Resident Post-Call Transportation Program

In December 2015, a trial agreement between PARIM and the University of Manitoba PGME was put in place for one year, to arrange for post call transportation home, in certain circumstances. This Program has been renewed for 2017-2018. In August 2019, the program was changed to allow for both transportation home and then back to your vehicle.

PGME’s Resident Safety Policy, Article states that: “Post call, if a Resident is too tired to safely operate a motor vehicle, he/she is advised to refrain from travel, by utilizing a call room until rested or take a taxi home.”

If a Resident feels that their fatigue will hinder the safe operation of their own motor vehicle and call rooms are unavailable for rest prior to travelling home, they are advised to take a taxi cab home.

Effective January 1, 2016, PARIM will reimburse Residents for the cost of their taxi-fare transportation home. Effective August 2019, PARIM will also reimburse Residents for the cost of their taxi-fare to return to their vehicles in accordance with the following:

  • The Resident has completed an In-Hospital on-call shift, whether scheduled as In-Hospital on-call shift or converted from a Home Call shift into an In-Hospital on-call shift in accordance with the PARIM Collective Agreement;
  • The Resident completes the Post-Call Transport Reimbursement Form, including providing the original receipts for the taxi fare.
