Dr. Karam Al-Bayati, PGY 2, Internal Medicine
Hello team! My name is Karam Al-Bayati, PGY2 IM. Serving as a delegate for the Medicine Grouping will be an honour. This year is an important year for PARIM. Being part of the second-largest residency program in the province means that the new contract will significantly impact our daily work. My goal is to advocate for you and create an environment of transparent communications because the decisions made at the negotiation table will affect us all.
Prior to medical school, I was the class president of my pharmacy class and had some experience negotiating student issues at the faculty level on a quarterly basis. During medical school, I led journal club and became a CMA ambassador which affords me access to other fellow residents across the country. Currently, I’m part of the academic day curriculum committee hoping to make meaningful changes and revamp this important component of our training. Overall, these roles helped me to further hone my communication and leadership skills.
In summary, I am a goal-oriented, honest, and accessible individual hoping to serve as your delegate. If you know me, you know that I don’t leave until I get the job done. This is my aim for this year. Thank you for your consideration!
Dr. Meredith Chui, PGY 3, Pediatrics
Hello! My name is Meredith, and I am a third-year pediatrics resident. I am interested in the role as a medicine board delegate member, as I am a proud Manitoban, and I want to ensure we continue to do our part to have competitive residency programs in terms of wellness and job satisfaction. There is no way to take care of patients without taking care of ourselves, and I want to be able to help communicate concerns and suggestions for change from our programs forward to PARIM. As residents we have such unique experiences and views, but I would aim to help collate our different experiences with the other Program Delegates to ensure our voices are represented and presented cohesively to allow for the greatest impact to the board.
Dr. Christine Kennedy, PGY 2, Internal Medicine
How do you do, fellow kids?
I’m Christine, a PGY2 in internal medicine. So far in residency, I’ve been vocal in town halls and in meetings with the program director to convey resident concerns and advocate for fair and kind treatment from attendings, allied health, and other residents. It would be my pleasure to advocate in a larger forum as the PARIM medicine grouping board delegate. My prior student government experience includes three years on the Manitoba Medical Students’ Association and four years as class treasurer.
I look forward to hearing your concerns and ideas, and effectively representing them over the upcoming year. Thank you for your confidence and support!
Dr. Arjun Raghavan, PGY 1, Internal Medicine
Hello, my name is Arjun Raghavan, and I am a PGY1 core internal medicine resident. I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Medicine Grouping program delegate on the PARIM board of directors. My experiences in medical school have ignited a passion for student advocacy which I hope to continue to develop in residency as your program delegate. As the academic representative for my class for all four years of medical school, I have actively participated in student council meetings and collaborated with faculty and staff to address the concerns of my peers. This experience has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges we face and the critical importance of effective communication and representation. I want to take an active role in advocating for our needs and ensuring initiatives are promoted which enhance our education and wellbeing. By serving on the board, I hope to bring our collective voices to the forefront and drive meaningful change for all residents. Thank you for considering my candidacy.
