2026-27 Medicine Grouping Board Candidates

I’m excited to put my name forward for re-election as Program Delegate with PARIM. This past year on the board and as the Chairman of the Financial, Audit and Risk Committee has given me a real, on-the-ground understanding of what it takes to advocate for resident wellness while keeping the association financially sound and accountable.

My background as former Department Head of HR for the Royal Canadian Navy still shapes how I approach this role—managing tough personnel issues, navigating negotiations, and supporting people under pressure. A year on the Board has only sharpened that.

I know there are ongoing challenges facing our grouping, and I’m committed to keeping at them. If re-elected, I’ll keep showing up as an approachable, reliable voice for our residents—making sure concerns are heard, taken seriously, and acted on with urgency and transparency. I’d be grateful for the chance to keep serving this community and building on the work we’ve started.

My name is Saabiq Hussain, and I am currently a PGY2 resident in the Core Internal Medicine program at the University of Manitoba. I am originally from Cambridge, Ontario, and completed my medical training at University College Cork in Ireland. I have lived in Winnipeg for over a year now and have had a great experience in the Internal Medicine program. The reason for running for the Board is to help advocate for residents and be a person that people can message anytime to raise questions or concerns.
Residency is a very busy time, and it can be difficult to have opportunities to speak up about issues occurring day-to-day. My goal would be to talk with residents both in person and through email to understand the major issues and come up with feasible solutions during PARIM meetings to make our experience in residency better overall. It has been great being a part of this community and I am grateful for how supportive and kind people have been welcoming me here in Winnipeg. Thank you for your consideration.

Hi everyone! I’m Burce, a second-year Internal Medicine resident with a strong interest in resident advocacy, mentorship, research, and creating a supportive training environment.

Throughout residency, I have been involved in research, leadership, and mentorship initiatives. These experiences have taught me the importance of listening carefully, communicating openly, and working collaboratively to represent the needs and perspectives of colleagues.

I am running for Medicine Program Delegate because I believe residents deserve representation that is approachable, engaged, and proactive. I want to be someone you feel comfortable reaching out to—whether you have a concern, an idea, or feedback about how our training experience could be improved. My priorities would include advocating for resident wellness, supporting meaningful improvements in training, and keeping Medicine residents informed about PARIM initiatives, resources, and opportunities.

I would also like to promote greater collaboration, mentorship, scholarly activity, and professional development within our residency community. Residency can be demanding, but it should also feel collegial, inclusive, and rewarding. It would be a privilege to represent Medicine residents, bring forward your perspectives, and work with PARIM leadership to help strengthen our residency experience.

Hi everyone! My name is Noah, and I am an Internal Medicine resident running for the Medicine Grouping Delegate on the PARIM Board.

I moved from Montreal to Winnipeg last year for residency, and one of the things that stood out to me most was how welcoming people were. Starting over in a new city isn’t always easy, and having residents who were happy to answer questions, check in, or simply make me feel included made a real difference, and reminded me how much we rely on one another during training.

Throughout medical school and residency, I’ve always enjoyed getting involved outside of clinical work. Whether it was mentoring junior learners, working on educational projects, or taking on leadership roles, I’ve found that I really enjoy connecting with people and looking for ways to make things a little better for those around me.

As a first-generation physician, I know how valuable it is to have someone in your corner. If I’m elected, I hope to be someone my co-residents feel comfortable approaching. I’d love the opportunity to listen to your ideas, advocate for our medicine residents, and help make sure everyone’s voice is heard. It would be a privilege to represent our group.

Hello, my name is Arjun Raghavan, and I’m a PGY3 Core Internal Medicine resident seeking re-election as your PARIM Medicine Grouping Program Delegate. Over the past year, I’ve served as a point of contact and advocate for residents across our grouping, working to ensure your concerns are heard and addressed at the board level. I also chaired the committee responsible for revamping PARIM’s bylaws, an effort aimed at strengthening the organization’s structure and long-term effectiveness on behalf of all residents. This role builds on a passion for advocacy that began in medical school, where I served as academic representative for four years, and has carried into residency where I also serve as one of the lead medical residents for my program. My experiences have equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges we face and the critical importance of effective communication and representation. I want to continue serving as a reliable voice for our grouping, building on the bylaw revisions that have been made, and pushing forward initiatives that support resident education and wellbeing.
