Dr. Einas Hussein, PGY 2, Neurology

Dr. Einas, currently a second-year Neurology resident, graduated from medical school in Cairo, Egypt. She trained as a family physician and, while practicing for a short period, simultaneously worked in academia and earned a PhD in medical sciences. This academic journey provided Dr. Einas with the enriching experience of teaching neurosciences to medical students, blending her roles as a clinician, educator, and perpetual student.

Dr. Einas thrives at the dynamic intersection of clinical practice and education, constantly learning and refining her approach to better educate patients and colleagues alike. Her commitment to continuous improvement is driven by a deep-seated motivation to foster a safe and inclusive environment, where the perspectives and experiences of clinicians, students, and patients are all considered, and contribute to enhancing medical practice for all.

Driven by a passion for improving the experiences of residents, Dr. Einas is aspiring to take on the role of PARIM President. The nomination for this prestigious position carries the hope of making a tangible difference for residents, especially during this crucial contract negotiation year. As President, Dr. Einas aims to influence the direction of PARIM towards embracing residents’ wellness, addressing remuneration to account for inflation, and shaping future of residents’ clinical practice. This role involves invaluable experience in leadership and advocacy, equipping Dr. Einas with the skills and insights needed to better serve her fellow residents in their future endeavors.

Dr. Anthony Wightman, PGY 1, Internal Medicine

Hello, fellow residents! My name is Anthony Wightman. I am excited to be starting Internal Medicine Residency, after completing a year of Rural Family Medicine, with a year of PARIM Board experience. I am privileged to request your consideration for the role of PARIM President. This is a new Contract year, which affects all of us. I will ensure that PARIM strives to implement your Contract concerns and feedback, communicates clearly, and maintains an active presence in the lives of residents inside and outside of Winnipeg.

I led various interest groups during medical school, was Vice Stick Internal and Senior Stick of the Manitoba Medical Student’s Association, and the PARIM Rural Board Member Delegate. I got lots done in these roles, such as chairing the PARIM Resident Awards committee and planning the first in-person Awards Gala since COVID. I’ve developed organizational and communication skills, sought my peers’ feedback, and ensured that their unions work for them. PARIM is negotiating a new Contract thisyear. This affects all of us. I have internal organizational experience within PARIM to secure a favorable contract. Externally, residents should be confident in their President, and able to contact them with concerns at any time. I will always be accessible in the upcoming year.

PARIM offers many opportunities for engagement. Boards, committees, and group activities often get missed in the business of resident life. As PARIM President, I will communicate about these opportunities early and often, so that you are able to get involved in your union. I hope to get PARIM more involved in supporting residents outside of Winnipeg, which is something I appreciated as a rural resident. One example of this is the PARIM wellness activities and Awards – I will solicit nominations from more programs, encouraging engagement from all sorts of specialties. More of us being involved in PARIM means it is more functional and democratic.

I have worked with PARIM for the past year. It’s a great organization, I’m familiar with it, and was an efficient Delegate. I hope to bring my experience to the role of President, in a year that means so much for all of us. Thank you for considering me for PARIM President, and have a great day.
