Please note that this is a by-election for the Board member who will represent the Peri-Operative Grouping alongside Dr. Philip Kawalec.
Dr. Dara Hallock, PGY 4 General Surgery
My name is Dara Hallock, a PGY-4 General Surgery resident at the University of Manitoba. I’m running for the Peri-operative Representative role on PARIM because I’m passionate about resident advocacy and feel there are large gaps in equity when it comes to addressing needs of those in surgical residencies. I bring several years of advocacy experience, having served on the Doctors Manitoba Board, the University of Manitoba Senate and Board of Governors, as well as with the CFMS and the Canadian Association of General Surgeons (CAGS). These roles have given me a strong foundation in policy, governance, and representing diverse voices effectively. I’ve seen firsthand how clear communication, transparency, and accountability is important for change —from wellness to scheduling equity. I have a particular focus on addressing current efforts for resident wellness and civility in the clinical learning environment. I would be honoured to represent you and work collaboratively to address the evolving challenges we all face in residency.
Dr. Karim Sidhom, PGY 3 Urology
I’m Dr. Karim Sidhom, a bilingual (English & French) third-year urology resident with a proven track record of leading numerous interest groups in medical school—from surgical skills workshops to wellness mentorship programs. I’m passionate about supporting surgical colleagues and eager to join the PARIM Board’s Peri-Operative Group to foster collaboration across anesthesia, nursing, and allied services. My passions for fitness, art, and research shape my approach to team resilience, creative problem solving, and evidence-based innovation. In this position hope to work alongside the elected team in hopes of enhancing communication and reducing burnout amongst residents to spearhead peri-operative research projects to advance patient care. As your advocate, I’ll gather insights from peri-operative staff and liaise with the PARIM Executive and Board to ensure concerns prompt swift action. By uniting diverse voices, driving clear communication, and integrating wellness, creativity, and scientific rigor, I aim to strengthen our peri-operative community and elevate both caregiver and patient outcomes.
